Rabat –Three Moroccan students from the National Institute of Posts and Telecommunications (INPT) won second place in the Arab IoT & AI Challenge at the Gitex Technology Week, held in Dubai between October 17 to 22.

Kaoutar El-Ghaich, Mayssae Chimi, and Hajar Ait Iddir, competed in a preliminary phase in Morocco’s local finals “Morocco IoT & AI Challenge” competition with several other participants from several engineering universities, schools, and institutes.

The three participants designed NoFoasty, a mobile application for kitchen users, catering and restaurant service managers.  implements Artificial Intelligence models to reduce food waste and to improve the quality of food.

In a statement to Morocco’s state media, El-Ghaich said that her team has participated in several competitions, winning several awards for the mobile application developed last year.

Speaking about her school, El-Ghaich noted that INPT students have been able to develop and present their projects as part of the Institute’s restructured pedagogical model, which incorporates seven elements related to digitalization.

Arab IoT & AI Challenge is a regional capacity-building and pre-incubation program for high school and university students, as well as Startups that have innovative ideas in the areas of Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digitalization-related fields.

Dozens of Moroccan companies operating in advanced technologies, digital transformation and telecommunications attended the Gitex Technology Week to promote Morocco’s offers in those specific areas.

Morocco’s Investment and Trade Agency (AMDIE) and the Moroccan Federation of Information Technologies and Offshoring supervised Moroccan companies for the smooth running of the event.

Meanwhile, three other teams are expected to compete in the second competition of Africa’s challenge in mid-December, namely, I-SENSE from OCP Maintenance Solutions, Edtronics from ENSAM Casablanca, and Connected Edifice from ENSEM.

Africa IoT & AI Challenge is a continent-wide program for university students and startups that are developing innovative projects in the aforementioned fields.

The competition provides participants with a pre-incubation program to unleash their technical and business abilities to forge their entrepreneurship skills and improve their innovative ideas.
