Rabat – Morocco and Israel celebrated the first anniversary of ties re-establishment in a joint event held at the Watergate hotel on Thursday, December 9.
Morocco’s Ambassador to the US Princess Lalla Joumala attended the joint event organized by the Israeli and Moroccan embassies in Washington D.C.
Members of Congress and Jewish communities participated in the event, which also marked the attendance of the US State Department’s Acting Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs Yael Lempert.
Israel ambassador to the US Michael Herzog expressed satisfaction with this participation.
“Tonight, HH Princess Lalla Joumala and I celebrated 1 year of Israel-Morocco Normalization. We rejoiced in ancient Jewish-Moroccan traditions while aspiring to make new ones together,” he said.

Morocco and Israel re-established relations in December 2020. The restoration of relations is part of the US-brokered Abraham accords, which saw several different countries re-establishing ties with Israel.
A few days after the announcement, Israel, Morocco, and the US signed a joint declaration, stipulating the importance of reinforcing relations and cooperation in all fields.
