Rabat – Travelers arriving to Morocco by boat must present a negative PCR test result or valid vaccination pass,  according to government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas.

The Moroccan government will further relax COVID-19 measures when “the necessary conditions are met,” indicated Baitas in Thursday’s press conference following the government’s weekly cabinet meeting.

He further noted that current COVID-19 restrictions are a response to the development of the epidemiological situation in Morocco and abroad. But the government is working on relaxing the preventive measures, to boost economic recovery and ensure citizens’ free movement.

Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations noted on Tuesday that the country’s current epidemiological situation is the best it has been since the virus outbreak. Mrabet added that COVID-19 is spreading at a slower rate following the Omicron wave.

The improvement of the epidemiological situation, as well as the consolidation of Morocco-Spain relations, led to the resumption of maritime travel between the two countries on April 12.

On April 11, Morocco’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics announced a gradual resumption of maritime trips connecting the Moroccan ports of Tanger Med and Tanger Ville to the Spanish ports of Algeciras and Tarifa.

Medium and long-haul maritime shipments from the ports of Tangier Med and Nador to Spain, France, and Italy resumed on April 11.

On Wednesday, the French embassy in Morocco announced the return of sea connections to Morocco.

In the past months, the French embassy has organized special ferries connecting Tanger Med to Marseille for the benefit of French and European vehicle owners stranded in Morocco.
