Rabat – The US will celebrate Eid Al Fitr 2022 on Monday, May 2, according to moon sightings and announcements from Muslim community centers, such as the Islamic Center of Passaic County.
The center, along with others throughout the counry, will hold festivities including an Eid feast to commemorate the holiday on Monday.
While states and cities with higher Muslim populations such as New York might offer public holidays for the occasion, other areas will continue to run as normal.
Muslim run businesses and office might close for the day, so owners can celebrate the occasion with their families.
The number of Muslims in the US is continuing to grow, as recent estimates put the number at more than 3 million people across the country, representing 1.1% of the US population.
Eid Al Fitr will mark the end of Ramadan and the start of Shawwal, as Muslims break their fast and celebrate with new clothes and gifts.

Mosques and community centers see increased attendance during the day, as the tight-knit Muslim community uses the occasion to socialize and connect with relatives and friends.
Eid Al Fitr also has prayers in the early morning that are followed by a Khutbah (sermon). Fasting during this day is prohibited by Islam.
