Rabat – A call for applications to the 2022 Artistic Marathon is open until April 25 for Moroccan artists and residents in Morocco who want to be part of the project. The 2022 Artistic Marathon is scheduled to take place from May 6 to 8 in Rabat.

The artistic marathon aims to connect artists with professionals in the music industry in order to boost collaboration opportunities and develop the Moroccan music sector.

Eight artists or groups will be selected through the call for applications to participate in the three-day marathon.

Regarding the requirements, candidates can either apply solo or as a group of two to five people aged 18 to 35 and must have at least one year of experience in the artistic landscape.

The candidates must also have at least 20 minutes of set time – for a potential stage performance.

The project is in line with the ‘Musika#1’ initiative themed “Music as an engine for sustainable development in Morocco,” implemented by the UNESCO Maghreb office to create new employment and income opportunities for music enthusiasts.

As part of the new edition of Musika #2, winners from the previous edition as well as candidates selected from the call of application will work together on musical projects.

The project focuses on strengthening Morocco’s cultural scene while giving aspiring artists international exposure by taking part in renowned festivals worldwide.

During Musika#1, around 12 Moroccan music groups from different cities benefited from coaching sessions in order to develop their musical projects. Many artists also participated in recording sessions organized by the Hiba Foundation.

The marathon is an opportunity for local and international music professionals and experts to find promising talents in Moroccan contemporary music.

In a bid to expand the cultural sector, Morocco plans to set up 150 cinemas, theaters and youth centers across the country by the end of 2022.
