Casablanca – According to an update from Marrakech’s Regional Water and Electricity Office (RADEEMA), the drinking water delivered in the city satisfies all the national quality criteria.
After many Marrakech residents raised concerns regarding changes in the properties of drinking water, RADEEMA has issued a statement underlining its concern for daily microbiological analysis and permanent control of water quality.
The office said it conducted a number of inspections both at the laboratories affiliated to its regional board and external laboratories to ensure the quality of the running water distributed in Marrakech.
It also emphasized that these are laboratories accredited by the Moroccan Accreditation Service (SEMAC), which is part of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and is under the control of ONEE (the national water office), the Provincial Delegation of Health of Marrakech, and the municipal office of hygiene (BCH).
RADEEMA stated that the change in the color of drinking water in some of Marrakech’s neighborhoods is a temporary issue caused by a change in the distribution system in the new hydrological complex.
It added, however, that the change in supply has had no effect on the quality of the drinking water, which it said fulfills all national quality criteria.
In line with the nationwide agenda of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), RADEEMA is pursuing its aim of delivering on its promise to increase network performance and tackle water shortages in the Marrakech region, the company stressed.
To address the problem of water deficit in the Oriental Region due to the low rainfall for several years at the national level and which has increased this year, ONEE also established an ambitious action in a meeting held on Thursday.
The Office has budgeted MAD 674 million (over $69 million) for the implementation of initiatives in the field of liquid sanitation in the region of the 2022-2027 period.
