Rabat – The Court of Assizes in the city of Udine, Italy, has sentenced two young Moroccan men for the murder of a 59-years-old Italian woman.
According to local news outlets, the court found Wail Boulaied and Mohammed Rabih guilty of murdering Marcella Boraso in her house in the town of Portogruaro, on the night between July 21 and 22, 2020. Boulaied was sentenced to 30 years in prison and Rabih to life in prison.
Rabih and Boulaied attacked an Italian woman with a knife and killed her with a hammer in her bathroom, said the same source. The two men then set her apartment on fire after stealing some items.
Boulaied, who was friends with the Italian woman, visited her on the night of 21 July 2020 alongside his friend Rabih. The two men attacked her after she had discovered that one of them was trying to steal from her house.
Boraso’s neighbors called the Italian fire department who then discovered the woman’s body while trying to extinguish the fire. The police arrested Boulaeid shortly after.
The young man lived in the area and was recognized as someone who frequently visited the victim. He initially denied any connection to the murder but confessed to his heinous crimes after spending months in police captivity, calling into question his partner in crime, Rabih.
Having cooperated with the police, Boulaied’s lawyer Igor Zornetta asked for the minimum sentences for his client. The court sentenced him, however, to 30 years in prison.
“The judges considered the aggravating circumstances prevailing over the mitigating circumstances and ordered that the compensation of the civil party be decided in civil proceedings,” added the same source.
Rabih, who had completely denied any connection to the crime and pleaded not guilty, was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. His lawyers Gaetano Vinci and Igor Visentin requested an acquittal.
