Rabat – Morocco and Bahrain are set to further develop their bilateral cooperation, with the youth sector being at the center of their common interest.

Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mehdi Bensaid, held talks by videoconference with his bahraini counterpart Ayman bin Tawfiq Al Moayyed, on ways to join forces in the youth sector.

The pair reaffirmed the long-standing relations between Morocco and Bahrain and the cordial ties between King Mohammed VI and King Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa, expressing readiness to further develop bilateral relations in several fields.

Bensaid noted that Morocco is working to consolidate cooperation with Bahrain, delivering to Al Moayyed the ongoing programs and projects his department is working to implement.

The Bahraini Minister also presented the initiatives carried out by his country to empower youth, while stressing the need to develop joint action in this specific sector through an exchange of expertise and experience.

In April, Morocco, Israel, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates signed the “Culture and Sports for Peace” agreement on the sidelines of the Expo 2020 Dubai.

The agreement intends to give a new impetus to cooperation between the four nations, through developing more partnerships, holding consultative meetings, and reinforcing cultural and sports exchanges, especially between youth.

Earlier in 2020, Bahrain ratified its Memorandum of Understanding on renewable energy with Morocco, with both countries pledging to develop energy-related projects and increase reliance on renewable energy resources.

In the MENA region’s renewable sector, Morocco ranks second in the energy transition index with a score of 57.97, according to the World Economic Forum, while Bahrain comes 13th with a score of 48.94.

In 2000, Morocco and Bahrain signed their first Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) to promote and protect direct trade and foreign investments between the two countries.
