Moroccan international Zakaria Aboukhlal has officially joined French club Toulouse FC from the Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.
The French club revealed the news on its Facebook and Twitter pages, highlighting the Moroccan forward as their first arrival for this transfer window.
“I hope to reach a new height and become even more competitive. I want to make the Club and our fans happy,” Aboukhlal said in a tweet shared by Toulouse FC.
The Moroccan footballer also took to Instagram to happily announce joining the Ligue 1 club.
“Can’t describe this feeling – so proud to join Toulouse FC. Thanks to the club for the warm welcome,” he captioned.
In recent weeks, the 22-year-old winger was heavily linked with a move to Toulouse FC. Having recently been promoted to Ligue 1, France’s top-tier football league, the club is seeking to bring in new blood to its squad to raise its quality and competitiveness to League 1 level.
The club sees in Aboukhlal a reliable long-term forward who will bring much-needed energy and creativity to their attacking line.

Meanwhile, Toulouse FC fans welcomed the arrival of the Moroccan international to Ligue 1, lauding his technical skills and saying they hope he will be a significant threat to the opponents’ defenses.
Aboukhlal joined AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2019, and the Moroccan international went on to score 12 goals and make one assist in 88 appearances with the Dutch club.
As Aboukhlal struggled to become part of AZ’s starting squad in the past two seasons, occasionally coming in as a substitute, many see his transfer to Toulouse FC as beneficial for the talented player to gain regular playing time ahead of Morocco’s Atlas Lions’ participation in the 2022 World Cup.
Following the World Cup final draw, FIFA, the world’s football governing body, listed Aboukhlal among the five Moroccan young players who are expected to fare well in the tournament.
“He is a gifted striker who is composed in front of goal and adept at operating in tight spaces,” FIFA said of the Moroccan forward.
