Rabat – 19-year-old Moroccan defender Chadi Riad has renewed his contract with FC Barcelona until June 30, 2024, according to a press release on the club’s website.
The contract also allows for an additional optional season. Although he will be part of the club’s B-team, Barca Atletic, the young Moroccan has already trained with the first team, the press release added.
Born in Mallorca to Moroccan parents, Riad played for CD Atletico Rafal, RCD Mallorca, and CD San Francisco before moving to FC Barcelona. He also plays as part of Morocco’s under-20 team.
FC Barcelona says Riad is “characterized by his physical power.” The player played with Sabadell on loan during the 2020-21 season, making his senior team debut there before returning to Barcelona’s Juvenil A team, where he will continue playing.
In his time back with Barcelona’s B-team, the Moroccan defender led the team’s defense as they achieved a double win and took home the The División de Honor Juvenil cup, as well the Champions Cup.
The 19-year-old prodigy is known for his speed and good positioning, and observers have noted that he is continuing to hone his skills at Barca and may grow to become a world-class, coveted defender.
