Rabat – Morocco’s city of Tangier will host a major national educational event on Western Sahara on November 6 to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the Green March.
Under the theme “Morocco is in its Sahara and the Sahara is in its Morocco,” the initiative aims to “strengthen principles of patriotism, instill the love for the country in children, and bring them closer to the first national cause and Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for the southern provinces,” Morocco’s news agency MAP reported.
The educational event is set to take place in the great stadium of Tangier at 4 p.m and will be hosted by Said Pipo, presenter of the children’s program “Atfal Ala Bal” (children who are aware) on the Moroccan TV channel Al Aoula, according to the event’s organizers.
The event expects the participation of about 35,000 children, accompanied by their parents and guardians.
The occasion will also be marked by a performance given by the Al-Marah Association for Culture and Art, with the support of the event’s organizers.

In partnership with the National Company for the Realization and Management of Stadiums (Sonarges), the event is organized with the support of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of National Education, and the Ministry of Youth.
The Green March, initiated by Morocco’s late King Hassan II, is commemorated annually to remember the 350,000 Moroccans who marched into Morocco’s southern provinces on 6 November 1975
The main goal of this march was to put an end to Spain’s colonization of the territory and reclaim Moroccan sovereignty over the southern provinces.
