Casablanca – Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) are co-organizing the African edition of the Applied Machine Learning Days (AMLD), from November 3 to 5, at UM6P in Benguerir.
The AMLD Africa conference, which will focus on artificial intelligence (AI), aims to make it more accessible, inclusive, and of higher quality in the continent, said a joint statement from the organizers.
The conference will focus on how artificial intelligence can be used to solve concrete problems in Africa, such as detecting cancer, optimizing agricultural production, and machine translation of the Moroccan dialect (Darija).
In addition, the conference plans to demonstrate how AI can assist in the continent’s sustainable development.
“The more Africans there are to learn and master AI, the more existing (or new) projects will harness data to create social, economic, and cultural value in local environments,” the organizers noted in the statement.
“It is with this same ambitious vision that the second edition of AMLD Africa will present AI,” they added.
The conference expects to feature speakers from public entities, private multinational technology companies, and emerging startups who will share their knowledge and experiences over the three days.
AMLD Africa plans to include educational workshops to help participants improve their technical skills.
Morocco’s Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform Ghita Mezzour will inaugurate the conference to highlight the country’s digitization journey. Mezzour will also emphasize the importance of aligning the public and private sectors on a global policy.
The minister’s inauguration will be followed by presentations from senior executives from Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, Novartis, and rising start-ups.
