Rabat – Germany’s Federal Foreign Office announced a pilot project on the suspension of visa rejections appeals from applicants from three countries, including Morocco.
The office announced the new measure last, week arguing that the pilot program aims to create additional capacities of processing visa applications.
“Now that the travel restrictions improved during the pandemic have been lifted, our visa sections are experiencing a considerable rise in applications, which in some cases exceeds pre-COVID-19 levels,” the federal office said.
The statement emphasized that visa sections are unable to process the increase to the same extent in all visa categories, a situation that led the office to announce the suspension of remonstrations for applicants from China, Morocco, and Turkey.
“We are launching a pilot project in China, Morocco, and Turkey in which remonstrations – that is what an objection against the rejection of a visa application is called – will be suspended,” the office added.
The federal office backed its decision, arguing that appeals against visa rejections are a “legal remedy granted voluntarily and therefore not statutorily prescribed.”
It added that this measure aims to reduce waiting times for all travelers and applicants.
The project will run for six months.
“If the pilot project is successful, we will consider expanding it to include other visa sections,” the office said, noting that decisions on visa application will be taken on the same legal basis as previously.
“If it is clear from the requisite documents submitted that the visa requirements have been met, missions will contribute to issue visas,” the statement added.
Statistics shared with Morocco World News from Schengen Visa Info last week ranked Morocco as the second African country with highest expenditure on rejected Shcneggen visa applications.
Last year, Moroccans spent $10.50 million on Schengen visa applications, with an overall rejection rate of 28.20% .
This means that 119,349 out 423,201 total applications were rejected, Schengen Visa Info documented.
The website also acknowledged the hurdles and challenges African travelers have faced when applying for a Schengen visa, including complex procedures, lengthy waiting times, and high rates of visa denials.
