Rabat – Tunisia will face its Namibian counterpart today in the first group stage match of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to take place between January 13 to February 11 in Cote d’Ivoire.

The venue hosting the match is the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in the Ivorian city of Korhogo. The game starts at 6:00 p.m. Moroccan Time and will be streamed live on UK’s Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football.

Placed in Group E, Tunisia will be competing against Namibia, Mali, and South Africa in its 21st participation in the highly anticipated AFCON.

The Tunisian team held a single title in 2004 as the host nation, triumphing over Morocco 2-1 in the finals.

During its last participation in the 2021 AFCON, Tunisia left the tournament in the quarter-finals, losing to Burkina Faso 0-1.

Namibia, on the other hand, is participating for the fourth time, the last one being in 2019. On all the four occasions, the team never managed to qualify to the knock-out stage.

Commenting on the “worrying” results of the opening matches so far, Tunisian head coach Jalel Kadiri told CAF in a recent statement that “Namibia is a serious opponent, and we don’t have any easy team.” He stressed that “the results in the opening rounds have shown that there is no small team in Africa as we saw, so we need to show them respect and play to our best ability.”

Talking about his team’s readiness, Kadiri said that the squad had sufficient preparations to go “as far as possible” in this tournament.
