Morocco’s Council for Human Rights (CNDH) said today that it is closely monitoring the investigation into the discovery of human bone remains during excavation work in the southern Moroccan city of Dakhla.

The Council issued a statement stressing that it was following up on the measures taken by the authorities following the discovery of human remains found during excavations to renovate the municipal building in Dakhla on March 20.

“After communicating with all concerned parties and collecting preliminary data, the council acknowledges the importance of the decision by the Public Prosecutor’s office to open an investigation into the matter,” it said.

The council emphasized that the investigation also seeks to cover the necessary genetic analysis of the remains found in Dakhla.

On the instructions of the President of the National Council, the chairperson of the Regional Committee for Human Rights in the Dakhla Oued Eddahab region held a working session with local authorities to verify the information circulated on social media on this matter, CNDH concluded.
