Head of Interpol’s project Stadia, Falah al-Dosari, has commended Morocco’s capacities in organizing international sporting events, describing the country as a global model in the field of security and management of major events.
Al Dosari made his remarks today in Marrakech on the sidelines of a two-day workshop organized by Interpol through its Stadia project.
The event is taking place in coordination with the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
“Morocco’s commitment to international cooperation, especially in the fields of security and major events, is a model to follow worldwide,” he said, pointing out that the North African country was chosen to host the workshop due to the nation’s desire to host more international events in the future.
He also emphasized the importance of strengthening security cooperation in the region.
Cyril Gout, Director of Operational Support and Analysis at Interpol echoed the same statement, noting Morocco’s dynamism in hosting major sporting events.
“We will work together to ensure their security by establishing through Interpol and the Stadia project, group dynamics between different countries to boost security and share best practices.”
The Stadia project was launched in 2012 to create a center of excellence to help member states plan and implement necessary police and security measures when organizing major international events.
Gout said that the project demonstrated its effectiveness in the 2022 Qatar World Cup and the Paris Olympic Games.
The workshop hosted in Marrakech seeks to support Morocco’s campaign to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as well as the 2030 World Cup. The country will co-host along with Spain and Portugal.
Over the years, Morocco assisted many countries in maintaining security throughout prestigious events.
The North African country assisted Qatar in ensuring security throughout the FIFA World Cup in 2022. France also extended its gratitude to Morocco for its operational and logical support during the 2024 Olympic Games held in Paris.
