Rabat – The draw for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will take place on November 22 at the Mohammed VI Sport Center in Sale, Morocco.

The event is set to start at 8 p.m. Moroccan time, and will broadcast live on CAF TV, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said on Sunday.

This draw will decide the groups, in which twelve of the continent’s best teams will compete for the title in what will be the 13th edition of the Women’s AFCON. The tournament is scheduled to run from July 5 to July 26, 2025.

South Africa is the reigning champion, lifting the trophy in 2022 in a tournament also hosted by Morocco.

The rise of women’s football in Africa has not gone unnoticed. FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised Morocco’s organization of the 2022 tournament, calling it a milestone for African women’s football.

“I was delighted to attend the opening game of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat and see women’s football take center stage in the football-loving continent of Africa,” said Gianni Infantino in a post on Instagram.

The FIFA president also expressed gratitude to CAF’s Patrice Motsepe and Moroccan Federation President Fouzi Lekjaa for their efforts. The 2022 tournament was a success, with four teams securing spots in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Women’s AFCON is the top competition for women’s football in Africa organized by CAF since 1991 and is held every two years. It has evolved into a prestigious tournament in its own right after being at first a qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. It now features 12 teams competing in group stages and knockouts.

The 2022 edition, hosted by Morocco, was a landmark moment for African women’s football. South Africa claimed their first title, beating Morocco in the final, while four teams secured spots in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The 2025 Women’s AFCON is set to celebrate the growth of women’s football and provide a launchpad for rising African talents.
