Born in France to Moroccan parents, Bouaddi has represented France at the Under-16 to Under-21 level. Morocco has shown interest, but he has yet to choose which senior team to play for. Morocco coach Walid Regragui said the federation respects his decision.
Other nominees include Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, Benfica’s João Neves, Palmeiras’ Estevão, and Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz.
Bouaddi’s nomination confirms his standing as a top young, talented midfielder in Europe.
The winner will be announced during the Ballon d’Or ceremony on September 22 in Paris.
