The Brazilian national team has resumed training ahead of its highly anticipated FIFA World Cup 2026 opening match against Morocco, scheduled for Saturday in New Jersey.
After enjoying a rest day on Sunday, Brazil returned to the training ground on Monday to begin their final week of preparations for the Group C encounter with the Atlas Lions.
The main talking point from the session was the arrival of midfielder Ederson, who took part in training shortly after joining the team’s camp. The Atalanta player was called up by coach Carlo Ancelotti to replace injured right-back Wesley, who was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a thigh injury.
Neymar’s condition
Brazil are also closely monitoring the recovery of star forward Neymar. The 34-year-old was expected to rejoin the squad on Monday, but the results of a recent MRI scan showed that he still requires additional recovery time before returning to full training.
Despite the delay, Brazil’s medical staff remain optimistic. According to reports, Neymar’s latest examination showed clear improvement compared to the tests conducted before the team traveled to the United States.
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star is now targeting a return during the group stage. Brazil hope he will be available either for their second match against Haiti on June 19 or their final group game against Scotland on June 24.
An open session
Only the first 15 minutes of Monday’s training session were open to the media. During that time, players gathered in the center of the pitch for discussions with the coaching staff before beginning their warm-up exercises.
Brazil’s preparations underline the importance of the opening clash against Morocco, a match that could play a key role in determining the outcome of Group C. With both teams aiming for a strong start, the encounter at MetLife Stadium is expected to be one of the standout fixtures of the first round of the 2026 World Cup.
