Agadir – Spanish National Police fired warning shots into the air on Monday morning as officers intervened following an attempt by some migrants gathered outside the Loma Colmenar facility in Ceuta to enter the compound.
The incident began after several migrants gained access to the facility, prompting others who had been waiting outside for hours to move forward at the same time.
The movement led to a rush at the entrance, during which some migrants pushed and confronted one another, according to reports.
Police deployed additional officers to the area and intervened to separate people involved in the confrontations and prevent the situation from escalating.
Authorities later closed the road leading to the Loma Colmenar facility and positioned officers at its entrances to prevent further people from gathering in the area.
The migrants were seeking accommodation after some were affected by protests staged by Ceuta residents, during which some of their belongings were burned, and areas where they had been sleeping were damaged.
Moreover, many reports showed sexual violence involving migrant women and girls. Spanish prosecutors have recorded 23 reported sexual assaults against migrant women and girls in Ceuta since the mass crossings on July 30, according to data from the Prosecutor’s Office obtained by Cadena SER.
Five of the cases reportedly involved rape, while nine victims were girls or teenagers aged between 14 and 17. Eight men have been placed under investigation in connection with the reported cases, including four Moroccan nationals, three Spaniards, and one Belgian national.
