Rabat – Moroccan international Anass Salah-Eddine could leave AS Roma before the end of the Greek transfer window, with Panathinaikos in advanced negotiations to sign the left-back.
According to Sky Sport journalist Manuele Baiocchini, with the development also reported by transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio, talks between Roma and Panathinaikos have progressed over a loan agreement containing a conditional obligation to buy.
The transfer has not yet been completed, however, with Salah-Eddine currently evaluating Panathinaikos’ latest proposal. The final decision therefore rests with the 24-year-old before the clubs can move toward completing the deal.
A move would give Salah-Eddine his first experience in Greek football following spells in the Netherlands and Italy.
Roma signed the Moroccan permanently from FC Twente in February 2025. He made only three Serie A appearances during his first months with the Italian club before joining PSV Eindhoven on loan in August of that year.
PSV spell followed limited Roma opportunities
Salah-Eddine featured 24 times across the Eredivisie and Champions League during the 2025-26 season. Including domestic cup competition, PSV officially credited him with 25 appearances in all competitions. He contributed to a campaign that ended with the Eindhoven club winning its 27th Dutch league title.
PSV had secured an option to purchase the defender when arranging his loan, but that agreement expired on July 1 and Salah-Eddine returned to Roma.
He has yet to feature for Roma during the opening weeks of the 2026-27 season, increasing the possibility of another move before the remaining European transfer windows close. Panathinaikos have now emerged as the most concrete destination, although Salah-Eddine has not yet given his final approval.
The Amsterdam-born defender, who can also operate further forward in midfield, has represented Morocco eight times after previously playing for the Netherlands at youth level.
Panathinaikos would also offer Salah-Eddine the opportunity to link up with fellow Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi, who joined the Greek club during the current transfer window.
With the Greek transfer market remaining open until Tuesday, the coming days are expected to determine whether Salah-Eddine accepts the proposal and brings his Roma spell to at least a temporary end.
