Rabat – Morocco international Noussair Mazraoui has attracted attention in the British media after delivering an impressive performance in the Atlas Lions’ opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gabon.
Mazraoui played a key role in Morocco’s 2-0 victory, scoring a spectacular long-range goal that quickly circulated across social media and sparked discussion among Manchester United supporters.
According to British newspaper The Sun, some Manchester United fans expressed their frustration over the apparent difference between Mazraoui’s performances for Morocco and his limited opportunities at Old Trafford.
The defender has faced competition for playing time at Manchester United, with Diogo Dalot featuring ahead of him in the club’s defensive setup. His latest international performance has therefore led some supporters to question whether the Moroccan is being used in the most effective way at club level.
One fan, writing on X, called for Mazraoui to leave Manchester United next summer while comparing his performances for Morocco with those he has produced for the English club.
Other supporters focused on the tactical side of the issue, arguing that Mazraoui appears more influential when playing for his national team. Some even compared aspects of his performance to the attacking qualities previously associated with former Real Madrid left-back Marcelo.
The reaction comes as Mazraoui continues to compete for regular playing time at Manchester United. His strong showing for Morocco has once again highlighted the versatility and attacking ability he can offer from the defensive line.
Mazraoui’s international display came at an important moment for Morocco, who began their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign with three points and will next face Lesotho on September 29 in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
For Manchester United, meanwhile, the Moroccan’s latest performance adds to the ongoing discussion surrounding his role and how best to utilize his qualities at club level.
