Rabat – Morocco’s Government said a total of 66,305 people benefited from housing aid by the end of September.

Spokesperson of the government, Mustapha Baitas, shared new data on the housing aid on Thursday in a press conference following the cabinet council.

He said the total amount of aid granted reached MAD 5.4 billion, or $589.686 million.

Around 37% of beneficiaries are aged 30, he said, pointing out a significant increase in the number of women benefiting from the program. The number of women accounts for 47% while Moroccans residing abroad represent 24% of beneficiaries.

The total number of applications received under the program reached at least 198,064, the spokesperson added,  stating that the applications by poverty value show that 62% concern housing units valued between MAD 300,000 ($32,760) and MAD 700,000 ($76,440).

Morocco launched a framework for state aid allocation in the housing sector in 2023 to facilitate access to housing.

Under the program, Morocco’s state allocates MAD 100,000 ($10,920) to support housing acquisitions valued under MAD 300,000.

The North African country allowed individuals seeking aid to submit their requests in January 2024. The Ministry of National Territorial Planning and Housing launched a digital platform to receive applications.

After submitting their request, authorities will verify the applicant’s compliance with the conditions. These include not owning residential property, not benefiting from any state-provided housing aid or privileges, and committing to allocate the purchased property as the primary residence for five years.

Once these conditions are confirmed, the support request is approved within a maximum period of seven days from the date of submission.
