Rabat – Many Moroccan fans are holding their breath for the draw of the Africa qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup– awaiting to explore Morocco’s team group.
The draw will take place today in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. The event will kick off at 3 p.m. local time Moroccans wishing to watch the draw, should turn on their televisions or log into FIFA’s livestream before 4 p.m. Morocco time, when the ceremony will take place.
Morocco’s television channel Arriyadia TNT is airing the ceremony today.
In Nigeria and Ghana, the draw ceremony can be watched through Goalball, which will provide live streaming options for the draw.
The draw will also be streamed live on FIFA’s website.
During the draw, 54 teams are set to be split into nine groups with each group winner qualifying.
The 54 CAF nations will be seeded in six pots, which will be then drawn into nine groups. Each of the groups will consist of six teams.
Morocco is in pot one, along with Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, and Cote d’Ivoire.
The second post includes Burkina Faso, Ghana, South Africa, Cabo Verde, Congo DR, Guinea, Zambia, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea.
Meanwhile, pot three includes Uganda, Benin, Mauritania, Kenya, Congo, Madagascar, Guinea Bissaou, Namibia, and Angola; while pot four lists Mozambique, the Gambia, Sierra Leone, Togo, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Central African Republic, Malawi, and Libya.
Pot five includes Niger, Comoros, Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Eswatini, Botswana, and Liberia; while the last pot features Lesotho, South Sudan, Mauritius, Chad, Sao Tome and Principe, Djibouti, Seychelles, Eritrea, and Somalia.
In the 2026 World Cup, 48 football nations will participate in the tournament, instead of the traditional quota set at 32 teams, as part of new FIFA regulations.
The draw is significant for the entire continent, including Moroccans who hope to experience another historic fairytale following the Qatar 2022 World Cup tournament.

During the former edition of the tournament, Morocco finished as a semi-finalist, mesmerizing the world with significant wins against football giants including Spain, Portugal, and Belgium.
Morocco’s Atlas Lions also left their footprints imprinted on FIFA World Cup pitches as the first African and Arab football team to reach the semi-finals of the global tournament.
