Rabat – The French embassy in Morocco has announced the launch of a special ferry from Tanger Med to Marseille to repatriate French and European citizens back to France.
The special ferry will make the crossing on Saturday, March 26, the embassy said on its Twitter account on Tuesday.
French shipping company La Meridionale will manage the voyage, which is arranged in collaboration with Moroccan authorities.
The embassy noted that those who registered for the crossing on March 12 and have not been contacted by La Meridionale do not need to fill out the form again.
The shipping company will contact the registered individuals as a priority, the embassy added.
The French embassy stressed that “the rates are set exclusively by the shipping companies” since the French authorities are not in charge of the commercial and pricing policy of private companies.
After Morocco closed its airspace and maritime borders on November 29 to prevent the spread of Omicron variant of the Covid virus, the French embassy launched special ferries for French and European vehicle owners.
The first trip took place on January 19 this year also from Tanger med port to Marseille.
Although Morocco reopened its airspace border on February 7, maritime borders remain closed.
Health experts, including Professor Azeddine Ibrahimi, call for entry to Morocco to be made easier and the reopening of maritime borders.
Ibrahimi stated in a Facebook post that since the epidemiological situation in Morocco is stable, the North African country should limit travel restrictions and allow Moroccans and incoming tourists to enter.
