Rabat – A joint operation involving the Spanish National Police, the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) of Morocco, and the Europol agency, led to the arrest of a suspected affiliate of the extremist group Daesh (ISIS) in Pamplona on September 6.
The individual was found in possession of a cache of manuals aimed at facilitating terrorist self-training, raising concerns about potential security threats in the region, Spanish media reported.
Among the seized manuals were instructions for manufacturing explosives, detonators, and poisons, as well as guides for concealing terrorist activities on the Internet, carrying out secure financial transactions, and handling various types of weapons.
Other manuals discovered at the man’s house related to the recruitment and indoctrination of new combatants and collecting information on potential targets for future attacks.
The suspect is facing charges related to terrorist collaboration, with specific allegations including indoctrination, recruitment, and support for terrorist activities. After his arrest on Wednesday, he was presented before Central Investigating Court No. 1 on Friday, September 8, where the court ordered his detention.
Authorities described the detained individual as having a “massive and frenetic virtual presence in accordance with their jihadist doctrine.” He reportedly used various social media platforms as a means of recruiting and indoctrinating other users, highlighting the increasing use of online spaces by extremist groups to radicalize and recruit potential followers.
