Rabat – Morocco’s national futsal team is playing against Portugal this Sunday, for the third day of the Futsal World Cup held in Lithuania.

Both teams have qualified for the round of 16 with a guaranteed spot among the four best third-placed teams of the tournament’s six groups.

The Atlas Lions are currently in second place in Group C with four points, following a victory against the Solomon Islands (6-0) and a draw against Thailand (1-1).

The national team achieved a historic feat by qualifying for the second round, a first for Morocco.

With the Portuguese team currently leading the group with 6 points, the Atlas Lions’ match against Portugal will determine the frontrunner of the first phase of the games.

Morocco is competing in their third Futsal World Cup, after losing all six games in the previous two world championships in 2012 and 2016.

The team’s outstanding performance during the recent Arab Cup raised expectations for this year’s games, raising World Cup expectations for this generation of players.

During the Arab Futsal Cup, the Atlas Lions scored an impressive total of 27 goals and conceded only two goals.

These remarkable figures convinced observers that this team is capable of making an impression in the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania, and the team has so far met fans’ expectations.

The Morocco-Portugal match starts this Sunday at 4 pm, and will be broadcast on BeIN Sports HD.
