Rabat – The Palestinian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, June 11, publicly denounced an Israeli assault on a Palestinian security base camp in the West Bank city of Nablus.

A Palestinian security guard was injured in the hand when Israeli forces opened fire on the military headquarters in Nablus.

Nablus governor Ibrahim Ramadan stated ,” a gathering of Israeli troopers focused on the base camp by barricading the structure and starting to shoot from three sides.”

“Israel is seeking to create a state of security and political chaos with a view to creating an atmosphere to pass the U.S. peace plan, known as ‘deal of the century'”  the ministry said in an announcement.

According to international media outlets, the U.S. proposed  “deal of the century” may oblige the Palestinians to make significant concessions to Israel with respect to Jerusalem’s status.

Palestinian towns and villages in the Israeli-populated West Bank have been exposed to multiple attacks and vandalism by Jewish settlers.

An estimated 640,000 Jewish settlers live on 196 settlements made with the Israeli government’s approval and an excess of 200 pioneers “outposts” work without government approval throughout the West Bank.

International law regards the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as “occupied territory” and considers all Jewish settlement-building movement there to be illegal.

Escalation from Israeli attack on security headquarters

Palestinian Government Spokesman, Ibrahim Melhem said that the assault on the Palestinian Preventive Security headquarters in the city of Nablus represents an escalation of hostilities designed to undermine the most significant pillars of the foundation of a Palestinian state, and jeopardize internal security.

Melhem, in an announcement on Tuesday, said the reality of this assault is doubled as it comes after the invitation the US Ambassador to Israel. Ambassador David Friedman has said that Israel should “at least” annex portions of the West Bank.

“This is not the first time and will not be the last that the occupation army harms our people, but the dangerous part in this incident is that a Palestinian military headquarters was targeted,” Melhem added.

The Israeli military, again, claimed that the overnight attack was an instance of apparent mistaken identity, and Israeli media has reported details of the incident as a  “firefight.”Palestinian sources report that there was no retaliatory fire exchanged.
