Rabat – The number of inmates who have benefited from reintegration programs reached 23,946 in 2017. This number represents  a 36 percent increase compared to 2016, said Mohamed Salah Tamek, General Delegate for penitentiary and reintegration administration on December 20.

In a speech delivered in Rabat on the occasion of the national prisoner day, Tamek said that the number of inmates who benefited from reintegration programs as anti-illiteracy, education and vocational training courses rose significantly this year.

The general delegate emphasized that this increase was  due to the credibility of these programs which meet the needs of prisoners in terms of capacity building conducive to reintegration into society.

“These figures will increase thanks to the human and financial means mobilized to ensure the success of such programs, notably through some partners as the Mohammed VI Foundation for Inmate Reintegration and  the National Council for Human Rights and the National Observatory for Prisons,” he added.

He added that 36,145 prisoners participated in the national competition program for 2017 and stood out in the sports, cultural and religious fields.
