Rabat – French philosopher, Bernard Henry Levy, has called on Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Jordan to liberate the Iraqi city of Mosul from the grips of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS).
In an interview with French magazine Le Journal du Dimanche on May 22, the controversial thinker said that Iraqi army is unable to put an end to ISIS presence in Mosul on its own. He went to add that three Sunni Kingdoms “have the religious legitimacy” that enables them to play such role.
“I am in favor of a solution provided by a Sunni Arab International Brigade. I dream of an initiative taken by the three kings of Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Jordan,” he said.
“They have religious and political legitimacy. With others, they would be able to liberate Mosul, occupy it temporarily before handing it over. In that case, one could say that the world stands against ISIS,” he added.
Mosul, which is one of Iraq’s largest cities, has been held by the Islamic State since June 2014.
