Durban (South Africa)- Rabab Arafi on Friday bagged a silver medal for Morocco in the 1500m event at the 20th African Championships in athletics, held on June 22-26 in Durban.

Arafi, the 1,500m African champion in 2012, clocked 4:03.95, behind South African Caster Semenya (4:01.99). The bronze medal went to Ethiopian Feyisa Adanech Anbesa (4:05.22).

It is the second medal for Morocco in these championships after the bronze medal won Thursday in pole vault by Dinar Nisrine (3.60m).

Approximately 720 athletes from 43 countries, including 20 Moroccans (9 women and 7 men) are taking part in this edition.

At the last African Championships in Marrakech in 2014, won by South Africa (19 medals), Morocco finished 9th in the overall ranking, with 8 medals (1 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze).
