Rabat – French NGO the High Commission for African Diasporas in France has hit back at recent racist comments made by comedian Julien Cazarre against Morocco’s football star Achraf Hakimi.
President of the NGO Rachida Kaaout said that the organization condemns “any hate speech and xenophobic act and calls for general mobilization whether at the level of politicians and civil associations in order to punish such acts contrary to the law and to French values.”
Kaaout made her remarks during an interview with Moroccan news outlet Le360, stressing that the NGO is supporting the right of the diaspora to file a complaint against the comedian.
The NGO member also announced a decision to carry out a campaign to “thwart” racist acts, describing the situation in France as “worrying.”
“We will act stronger to defend the rights of victims to put an end to this deplorable and reprehensible situation,” she said.
Comedian Cazarre caused an uproar as he spoke of the relationship between Hakimi and his friend and teammate from Paris Saint Germain Kylian Mbappe, describing the Moroccan player as “Mbappe’s dog.”
The French comedian mimicked Kylian saying: “I will go there with my dog … my dog Achraf.”
Hakimi and Mbappe have a strong friendship inside and outside work. The two football players have recently shared photos from New York, where they attended an NBA match.
Both football players were also seen recently visiting Times Square together.
