Rabat – Qatar Airways will resume flights to Casablanca and Marrakech, starting June 30 this year, the carrier announced in a press release on Monday.
The flights will operate four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, Qatar Airways’s statement noted, adding: “The award winning airline remains committed to Morocco with the resumption of both cities’ routes, bolstering global connectivity, customer excellence and cultural conditions.”
Commenting on the announcement, Qatar Airways Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker stressed that the flights to Casablanca and Marrakech are meant to strengthen the Qatari carrier’s commitment to the Moroccan market and “meet a strong demand for connectivity to these two beautiful and historic cities.”
Al Baker also reminisced about the 2022 FIFA World Cup, emphasizing that the tournament brought Qatar and Morocco together through football “and bolstered our cultural and economic cohesion.”
He concluded: “Connecting through our Hamada International Airport offers passengers an unparalleled 5-star travel experience to over 160 destinations and continues to grow and expand our network.”
As well as pointing out the Qatari company’s readiness to play its part in cementing ties between Morocco and Qatar, its statement noted the importance and unique appeal of Moroccan destinations in the world of travel enthusiasts.
In particular, Qatar Airways’s announcement recalled that Casablanca attracts people all over the world to “visit this truly classic city.”And of Marrakech, arguably Morocco’s most famous and most sought-after tourist destination, the statement said that the iconic Moroccan city is home to a uniquely attractive, “traditional aesthetic with phenomenal scenery, thriving souq and a rich history.”
The announcement comes as Morocco continues to cement its position in the global tourism industry. Having set its sights on attracting 26 million tourists by 2030, Morocco welcomed nearly 11 million tourists in 2022. Meanwhile, the country’s tourist arrivals reached 2.9 million travelers in the first quarter of this year.
