Rabat – The European Union expressed its support to Morocco’s “visionary” solar plan whose first phase was inaugurated Thursday by King Mohammed VI.
In a statement, the EU delegation in Rabat hailed the official commissioning of the first plant of the Noor-Ouarzazate solar complex (Noor I), and the official launch of the construction works of the second and third plants of this megaproject (Noor II and Noor III), deeming Morocco’s plan as “ambitious, coherent and visionary”.
This plant is “the best illustration of Morocco’s willingness to face climate change”, the statement added.
The delegation noted that EU supported Noor I through a “coherent and decisive” intervention from European investors, including the EU, the European Investment Bank (EIB), the French Development Agency (AFD) and the German Development Bank (KFW).
It added that European investors contribute with 17 billion dirhams, which represents 60 pc of the total funding of Noor II and Noor III.
