Rabat – Barcelona’s court has sentenced Lionel Messi and his father to 21 months in prison for tax fraud, according to Spanish newspaper El Pais.
The athlete and his father are accused of defrauding 4.1 million euros to Spain’s treasury through a structure of companies in tax havens.
According to the same source, the Argentine star and his father were given prison time for avoiding to pay taxes between 2007 and 2009.
During a court hearing in late May, Messi argued before the judges that he was not aware of the way his father handled his revenues.
