London – Anniesa Hasibuan’s collection was at New York Fashion week; showcasing her modest designs, with her models all wearing hijab.
Muslim fashion designer, Anniesa Hasibuan has made history on the runway at New York Fashion Week as the first designer ever to showcase her pieces with hijab-wearing models.
The Indonesian designer turned heads with her Spring/Summer ’17 collection labelled as D’Jakarta. The collection featured modest fashion, with models wearing flowing trousers and silk skirts.

Each model was adorned with a gold, pink or grey silk hijab. The 30-year-old also made history as the first Indonesian designer to be featured on the catwalk at the New York Fashion Week. She says that her designs were inspired by her home city of Jakarta. Anniesa has held previous fashion shows in London and Paris but this was her first in the US.
Her show consisted of 48 varying looks, from every-day wear to evening dresses and concluded with Ms Hasibuan taking to the runway, to be received by a standing ovation.

Her show has been the talk of social media, with various news outlets and websites supporting the work of the designer. Fans of the Indonesian-based designer have sung her praises on social media, calling the show ‘breath-taking’.
Ms Hasibuan has certainly made her mark on the Fashion Week, which ran from 7 to 15 September and was attended by over 125,000 people. A further 2 million are estimated to have tuned in online via live streams.
