Madrid – Morocco is a great ally of Spain in the fight against terrorism, said interior minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz, describing as “excellent” the cooperation between the two countries’ security services and authorities in the field.
“We share with the Moroccan security services operational information, efforts and intelligence. Joint operations are even conducted simultaneously by the two countries,” he told Spanish magazine “Fundación Victimas del Terrorismo” (Foundation of terrorism victims). Diaz noted, in this regard, that cooperation between the Moroccan and Spanish authorities, in addition to the one developed with European allies, “is one of our strongest points” in terms of the counterterrorism fight.
He recalled that some 190 people holding the Spanish nationality or living in Spain have joined, since 2014, terrorist organizations in Iraq and Syria, noting that 25% of them perished in this spot while 15% returned to Spain.
