Juba – President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, said that the “issue of Sahara is different in its genesis, legal and political background from that of South Sudan,” hailing “Morocco’s serious and credible efforts” to reach a political solution to this dispute.

“While considering that the issue of Sahara is different in its genesis, legal and political background from that of South Sudan, President Salva Kiir Mayardit acknowledges the efforts of the United Nations to reach a political solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara,” said the joint Communiqué published after the official visit of King Mohammed VI to South Sudan.

The President of South Sudan also congratulated the King for “the reintegration of Morocco within the African Union and hailed the support of the overwhelming majority of African countries to Morocco,” highlighting, in this vein, “Morocco’s role and its effective contribution for the development, the unity and the stability of the continent.”

King Mohammed VI paid a two-day visit to South Sudan on Tuesday and Wednesday. The visit, which comes just after Morocco’s return to the African Union, is the Moroccan monarch’s first visit to this war-torn country.

On the second of his visit, King Mohammed VI and President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, chaired, on Wednesday at the presidential palace in Juba, the signing ceremony of nine bilateral agreements in different areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The most important of these agreement is the one by virtue of which commits to building South Sudan new capital.
