Rabat – Colin Stewart, special representative of the UN secretary General for Western Sahara will host a briefing on MINURSO Thursday, October 11.

Stewart, who is also head of UN mission in Western Sahara, also known as MINURSO, will hold consultations over the report of the UN Secretary General’s Antonio Guterres at Thursday briefing.

Guterres addressed to the Security Council a report on the situation in Western Sahara on October 3.

The report details the activities of MINURSO during its six month mandate in the region.

In his report, the UN chief  requested a one-year extension of the UN mission mandate in the region to one year.

The Security Council will meet at the end of this month to renew MINURSO’s mandate.

Earlier this month, Personal Envoy of UN Secretary-General Personal Envoy Horst Kohler invited Morocco, Algeria, Polisario, and Mauritania for talks in Geneva in December.

The talks, which are scheduled to be held on December 4-5, are meant to the establish a general framework for possible negotiations.
