Casablanca —Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has suspended 12 air routes as a sharp rise in kerosene prices continues to weigh on airline operations.
The increase in fuel costs is linked to tensions in the Middle East, which have pushed up prices and added pressure on the aviation sector. The Moroccan airline said the decision affects routes connecting Morocco with several African and European destinations.
The suspended routes include Casablanca to Bangui, Casablanca to Brazzaville, Casablanca to Kinshasa, Casablanca to Douala, Casablanca to Yaoundé, and Casablanca to Libreville.
The decision also affects flights from Tangier to Malaga and Barcelona, as well as routes from Marrakech to Lyon, Bordeaux, Marseille, and Brussels.
Royal Air Maroc described the suspensions as “provisional.” The airline acknowledged that higher kerosene prices make some operations more difficult, especially on routes also facing weaker demand.
The affected routes are expected to be reassessed depending on market conditions and the evolution of fuel prices.
Fuel remains one of the biggest costs for airlines. Sudden increases can quickly affect flight planning, ticket pricing, and route profitability. In this case, RAM has chosen to adjust part of its network rather than maintain all connections under the current cost pressure.
The suspensions come at a time when global aviation companies are closely watching energy markets, especially as tensions in the Middle East continue to influence oil and fuel prices.
Royal Air Maroc has not announced a final timeline for the return of the suspended routes.
