Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Health is mobilizing its forces to launch the anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaign among children aged between 12 and 17.
Doctor Said Afif, a member of Morocco’s Scientific and Technical Committee of Vaccinations, confirmed the news saying that the health ministry is cooperating with other institutions to ensure the success of the campaign.
“Regional academies, the Ministry of Interior, and Ministry of Education are working on planning the vaccination for students aged between 12 and 17,” Afif told Morocco World News.
Moroccan health officials decided to administer vaccines to children in order to eliminate contamination risks among them.
Experts have repeatedly warned that infections among children do not only impose health problems for themselves, but for their families as well.
Children may be carriers of the virus without showing any symptoms, resulting in infections among other members of their families, whose immune systems are weaker.
Morocco aims to vaccinate 80% of its population or 33 million people against the virus to reach herd immunity. The goal is in line with the country’s anti-COVID-19 campaign.
Morocco has stretched its vaccination campaign to reach the 18 age group. The Health and Education ministries are both encouraging students to engage in the campaign before the start of the 2021/2022 academic year.
To date, Morocco fully vaccinated 12,911,722 people.
Over 17,288,054 people also received the first dose of the vaccine as of August 22.
Morocco witnessed an alarming increase in the number of cases recently. Number of daily cases reached up to 9,000 cases.
The death toll is also alarming. The country records over 100 deaths in a 24 hours period daily
