Rabat – Raja management has reportedly decided to end coach Paco Jémez’s tenure after a series of disappointing results in the Botola Pro as the team struggles to deliver the performances expected by its supporters.
Wednesday’s draw in the postponed fifth-round fixture added to Raja’s recent difficulties. Hassania Agadir took the lead through Amine Azri in the 67th minute before Mathias Oyewusi equalized for the Casablanca side in the 81st minute. Raja then missed an opportunity to secure all three points when Adam Ennafati failed to convert a penalty in the 90th minute.
The result extended Raja’s winless run in the league to three matches. Before facing Hassania, the Green Eagles had drawn 0-0 with MAS Fez and 1-1 with FUS Rabat, while their only victory in that sequence came against Renaissance Zemamra, whom they defeated 1-0.
Raja now sits 11th in the Botola Pro standings with six points, although they still have a postponed match against AS FAR and another difficult fixture against RS Berkane on Sunday. The club’s inconsistent start has increased pressure on the coaching staff, with the latest setback further undermining Jémez’s position.
Raja is reportedly preparing to officially announce the Spanish coach’s departure, although the decision has not been formally confirmed yet.
Jinani as an interim candidate
Raja, meanwhile, are considering appointing Moroccan coach Abdelkarim Jinani as interim manager while the club finalizes the termination of Jémez’s contract, according to Radio Mars. An official announcement regarding the Spaniard’s departure is still pending.
Thanks to his previous experience with Raja and familiarity with the club, Jinani is a strong candidate to succeed Jémez and lead Raja through the upcoming phase, especially as serious tests await the team both in the Botola Pro and CAF Confederation Cup.
