Rabat – Moroccan champion El Amine Chentouf has clinched a gold medal after finishing first in the T12 marathon in the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
The 40-year-old athlete has beaten his own Paralymic record by more than three minutes, finishing the marathon at 2:21:43.
After reaching the finishing line, the Moroccan champion celebrated his win by greeting his supporters with waves and joyful smiles.
The new win added to Morocco’s triumph in the competition.
Morocco is bringing back several medals, including gold after a successful participation in this year’s Paralympics.
Chentouf’s win comes just a few days after Moroccan para-runner Abdeslam Hili also won the gold medal in the men’s T12 400m and set a new world record in the process.
The Moroccan participation has received applause and celebrations from all Moroccans.
King Mohammed VI joined the chorus and sent a cable of congratulations to Moroccan champions who clinched medals.
The King congratulated Hili, saying that his win will “strengthen the determination of this champion to redouble his efforts to achieve more success and raise the flag of Morocco at the various continental and world sporting events.”
The monarch also sent messages to silver medalists Fouzia El Kassoui, Youssra Karim, and Mohamed Amguoun.
King Mohammed VI also congratulated Hayat El Garaa and Saida Amoudi who won bronze medals.
