Rabat – Panathinaikos FC announced on Thursday that Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi has successfully undergone surgery.
The procedure was performed to address a right hamstring tendon injury sustained by the Moroccan international.
In a statement shared via social media, the club confirmed that the procedure went well.
“Azzedine Ounahi successfully underwent surgery today to repair the tendon in his right biceps femoris muscle,” the club shared on X, stressing that the Moroccan international received top-tier medical care by assembling an elite team of specialists for the operation.
“Alongside Panathinaikos team doctor Haris Lalos, the surgical team included world-renowned orthopaedic surgeon Nicolas Lefèvre and Christophe Baudot, team doctor of the Moroccan national team and medical consultant to Paris Saint-Germain,” they added.
Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi paid a personal visit to Ounahi immediately after his operation, making him the Panathinaikos midfielder’s first post-surgery visitor.
Ounahi is scheduled to begin his rehabilitation program on Friday. Under a tailored treatment plan, the Moroccan midfielder will progress through the recovery process with the ultimate goal of returning to competitive action.
Initial estimates indicate a layoff duration of four to five months for the Moroccan midfielder.
This puts his potential return to match fitness toward the end of the 2026–2027 season, between late February and late March.
Ounahi picked up the injury during Panathinaikos’ 5-1 victory over Asteras Aktor on October 18.
Despite the decisive win, losing the Moroccan midfielder has proven to be a significant blow for the Greek side.
Ounahi’s extended layoff could also pose a challenge for Morocco’s national team, with his availability for upcoming international fixtures dependent on how smoothly his rehabilitation progresses.
