Mekne – Former Chief of Staff of Moulay Hafid Elalamy Since 2019, Ryad Mezzour succeeds the former emblematic minister as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Green and Digital Economy, on October 7.

As a trained engineer, he earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich in 1996, before obtaining a Master of Science with a specialty in power plants and business management.

The new Minister of Industry is a member of the National Council of Istiqlal, as well as a member of the executive board of Alliance of Istiqlal Economists.

Born in Rabat in 1971 into a family of six brothers and sisters, Ryad Mezzour traveled to Switzerland to pursue his higher education after obtaining his Baccalaureate in 1989 at the Lycée Lyautey in Casablanca.

He started his professional career in Switzerland at ABB, one of the world leaders in energy and automation technologies, from 1996 to 1998.  Mezzour then left the position to pursue a Master’s degree in science with a focus on power plants and business management at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.

After earning a master’s degree in business administration, he went on to work as a financial services consultant for Deloitte from 2000 to 2003. The business strategist returned to Morocco in 2003 to manage Budget-Location, a major car rental company.

In 2006, Mezzour received a new title in Somed, becoming advisor to the president, before heading up the trading department and later leading the Zellidja subsidiary.

In 2009, Mezzour was appointed General Manager of Suzuki Morocco, a position he held until 2013, before joining the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) as an expert for over five years.

During the cabinet of former Prime Minister Saad Eddine El Othmani, Mezzour joined the Moulay Hafid Elalamy circle as a senior expert in July 2019 to work on the deployment of the industrial acceleration plan, the recovery plan and the import substitution strategy, among other things.
