Rabat – Morocco’s Health Ministry has said it recorded a total of 269 new cases throughout the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections since March 2020 to 942,132 cases.

Current active cases in Morocco stand at 5,960, and the fatality rate shows1.5% with 7 new COVID-19-related deaths in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the recovery rate increased to 97.8% as 198 people recovered in the last 24 hours, reaching a total of  921,628 recoveries since the COVID crisis reached Morocco.

12 new critical cases were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours. Of the total number of critical COVID patients in Morocco, 23 patients are under invasive intubation, while 239 are under artificial respiration.

Regionally, health officials reported that the Rabat Sale Kenitra region recorded 112 new COVID-19 cases and one death, making it the highest ranked region in terms of new cases.

Casablanca-Settat comes second with 68 new cases and 6 deaths, while Tangier-Tetouan-Al -Hoceima reports 26 new cases.

Moroccan health authorities indicated that the total number of fully vaccinated individuals in the country reached 20,925,569 people, while 23,236,666 individuals have been administered their first dose.

Morocco launched the administration of the third dose of vaccine, also called “booster shot” on October 4, and 705,534 individuals have been administered the third dose as of this evening.

As Morocco continues to score encouraging points in its vaccination campaign against the COVID-19 virus, the country’s government expects to reach its goal of hitting a national vaccination rate of 80% by the end of 2021.

Amid such a general mood of optimism about Morocco’s post-COVID prospects, new projections are that the country’s government will aim to bolster its vaccination for younger age groups by the end of November this year.

The goal would be to go far beyond the initial objective of an 80% vaccination rate in order to completely lift the remaining COVID measures on economic and social activities.
