Rabat – Morocco and Israel are enhancing their relations through the unveiling of new business opportunities for companies in the travel industry. The Israeli airline El Al will increase its flights to a biweekly frequency in the Marrakech-Tel Aviv route.

In addition to the previously scheduled flights on Wednesdays, the airline company is set to schedule another flight on Sundays. El Al will now operate two flights a week between Marrakech and Tel Aviv.

Both flights are operated by Boeing 739s, with a capacity of nearly 175 seats.

Last week, Morocco’s national airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) signed with El Al a cooperation protocol (MoU) to govern their future relations and to develop their services to meet the needs and expectations of customers.

The agreement was signed by Hamid Addou and Avigal Soreq, CEOs of RAM El Al respectively, within the framework of the 77th General Assembly of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Hundreds of delegates and airline executives attended the 77th General Assembly of the IATA held recently in Boston.

RAM and El Al plan to operate airline transport services between Morocco and Israel through two respective hubs: Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca and Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, RAM said in a statement.

Morocco is the sixth country of the Arab League to share normalized bilateral ties with Israel since the renormalization of their relations last year.

The two countries expressed their willingness on several occasions to further promote trade and economic cooperation in a variety of areas.

2000 of the approximately 8.3 million Jews living outside Israel reside in Morocco.  The North African country was home to over 200,000 jews in the immediate aftermath of World War II and to this day, and it has since evinced a profound appreciation of its Jewish history and appears to have special attachment to the Moroccan-Jewish diaspora.
