Rabat – Royal Air Maroc is expected to launch its first commercial flight connecting Casablanca and Tel Aviv on March 13.
The launch of the Royal Air Maroc flight was initially scheduled for December 2021. The ongoing COVID -19 crisis, including the emergence of the Omicron variant, led to the postponement of the inaugural flight.
Le360 quoted a source as saying that Royal Air Maroc’s first flight will carry a delegation of Moroccan businessmen. The delegation will visit Israel as “part of an economic mission,” organized by Morocco’s General Confederation of Moroccan Entreprises (CGEM).
The source added that CGEM President Chakib Laajlej will lead the delegation that will include 70 economic experts, representing different fields — including tourism, agriculture, innovation, and finance.
The visit aims to explore means to boost trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The news comes just a day after the Israeli Economy Ministry announced an upcoming visit of Economy Minister Orna Barbivai.
The Israeli ministry said Barbivai’s visit will start on Sunday.

The launch of direct flights between Morocco and Israel is part of Morocco’s decision to reestablish ties with Israel.
Morocco and Israel signed a joint agreement in December 2020, a declaration as part of the American-brokered Abraham accords.
Israeli airlines, such as El AI and Israir have announced flight plans to serve the two destinations. Tourism operators are expecting the number of Israeli tourists to reach 200,000 this year, following Morocco’s decision to reopen its borders earlier this month.
