Morocco’s House of Councillors will host on Thursday, March 11th, a conference of the Association of Senates, Shoora, and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA).
A statement from the House of Councilors said the conference takes place under direct instructions from King Mohammed VI.
“The conference aims mainly at establishing the foundations for cooperation between the participating countries, as well as discussing a number of issues and topics of great importance to the African and Arab sides,” the House of Councilors said.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of ASSECAA Naam Mayara will kick off the conference’s activities with a speech and a presentation of a report from the General Secretary of the association.
The report will include detailed data on the association’s activities during the period since the tenth conference.
The conference will focus on African-Arab cooperation and solidarity to boost development and economic recovery amid COVID-19 repercussions.
The second theme the conference will cover is “youth and women at the core of development policies and sustainable investments.”
ASSECAA was founded in 2002 during a meeting Morocco hosted in Rabat on June 6-7 in the same year. The association aims to support and strengthen the system of parliamentary councils consisting of two legislative chambers within African and Arab countries.
The association also aims to boost cooperation in the economic, political, social, and cultural fields between African and Arab countries as well as other countries across the world.
