Rabat – Morocco and Argentina have reiterated their mutual interest in consolidating “active and mutually beneficial” bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita held, on March 4, a videoconference with Argentina’s Minister of Foreign Relations, International Trade, and Worship Santiago Andrés Cafiero.
The ministers reviewed the bilateral relations between their respective countries and discussed prospects for developing and promoting a “dynamic sectoral cooperation” in security, agriculture, renewable energy, higher education, technology, as well as scientific research.
Bourita and Cafiero welcomed the constructive political dialogue characterizing the Moroccan and Argentinian relations at the bilateral and multilateral levels.
To advance bilateral relations, they agreed to organize the fifth meeting of political consultations and the fifth session of the Joint Morocco-Argentina Commission.
A business forum and official visits to both countries are set to take place, said the ministers. The meetings “lay the foundation for an exemplary partnership for the benefit of both countries.”
At the multilateral level, Morocco and Argentina mutually commended the win-win logic of triangular cooperation, expressing interest in the exchange of experiences between African and Latin American countries, particularly in the agricultural sector.
The triangular cooperation encourages and facilitates South-South initiatives through the support of donor countries or international organizations.
The new form of cooperation involves two countries from Global South sharing similar issues and a donor – country or organization-. It enables the exchange of training and expertise as well as the funding of projects in both countries.

The Moroccan minister also noted that his country is an important partner of Mercosur, known as the Southern Common Market. The North African country signed a 2004 framework agreement with the bloc on trade
In 2020, Moroccan exports to Argentina amounted to $235.85 million while imports from Argentina reached $487.8 million.
